What Is Dry Needling?

Dry needling is a treatment we often use for muscle pain, tightness and spasm. It is a similar process to acupuncture but we place needles in different areas for different reasons.

It involves placing very fine needles into specific muscle trigger points to help:

  • Reduce muscle tension

  • Improve movement

  • Settle pain

  • Improve longer-term muscle function

Despite how it sounds, dry needling is generally very tolerable. Most people describe it as less uncomfortable than they expect and more comfortable than a deep tissue massage.

Compared to massage alone, dry needling can:

  • Reach deeper muscle layers

  • Provide faster relief

  • Have longer-lasting effects when combined with exercise

It also means we can fit a lot more treatment into your session time as it takes much less time than massage. It is super safe, and super effective. Feel free to ask your therapist about it during your next session!
